The 47th annual National EMS Week was May 15-21. Authorized in 1974 by President Gerald Ford,  EMS Week is a time to celebrate EMS and the important work they do.

“EMS Week is a time to thank our paramedics, EMTs and the entire EMS workforce for their service and sacrifices on behalf of our  Boyle County citizens,” said EMS Committee Member Magistrate Jason Cullen.

“In celebration of our outstanding EMS team, Boyle County Fiscal Court is proud to finally announce plans to relocate EMS from the Government Services Center,” said Boyle County Judge Executive  Howard P. Hunt III. “Our jail requires overhauling, to meet current standards. Before we can do this, we must relocate our other departments to make way for a jail expansion. The first piece of this project is moving EMS,” said Hunt.

“Our EMS facility does not meet our current needs. For example, we have 7 ambulances but only 4 bays. So, each time we park an ambulance outside we have to unload all of our medicines and  equipment because they cannot be left outside in the elements. This cuts down on our response time when we have a call because we have to repack everything before we pull out,” said Mike Rogers  Director of Boyle County EMS.

“The county is currently working with the City of Danville to swap parcels of property in and near the Boyle County fairgrounds. The County owns just over 3 acres of property inside the fairgrounds and is  hoping working with City Manager Earl Coffey to come to an agreement on trading this parcel for a  piece nearby that will provide EMS new home, with easier access to the bypass,” said Judge Hunt.
