Shaker Village to host Vintage Father’s Day

Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill will host a fun-filled day of baseball, cars, tools and heritage demonstrations in celebration of Father’s Day on Saturday, June 18 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Admission is free ages 5 and under, $7 ages 6-12, $14 ages 13-61, and $10 for seniors, first responders and military, which includes access to all of the day’s events and Village’s Daily Adventure Tours.
The Bluegrass Barons and Cincinnati Redstockings will face-off in a vintage 1869 baseball game from 1-3 p.m. Both teams will erst period-reproduction uniforms and equipment while following baseball rules from the late 19th century. Guests should bring their own lawn chairs to relax under the shade trees lining the infield.
The McLain Family Band will perform original and traditional bluegrass music from 2-4 p.m. From Eastern Kentucky, they have become internationally known as one of the most spontaneous, creative and spirited groups. They have appeared at Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center and The Grand Ole Opry among other notable venues.
A classic car show will be on hand to tour from noon-3 p.m. Car owners will be available to meet and discuss collecting and caring for these unique pieces of Americana. A vintage tool display also kicks off at noon-3 p.m. where guests can learn about hand tools from the past and speak to tool historian Calvin Shewmaker.
A variety of heritage demonstrations and programs are scheduled throughout the day including:
• Broom Making – 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
• Understanding Architecture – 10 a.m.-noon
• Hay Wagon Tours – 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
• Working with Draft Animals – 11 a.m.-noon
• Blacksmithing – 1-2 p.m.
• Ask a Curator: Caring for Heirlooms and Photos – 2-4 p.m.
• Historic Preservation: 1809 Farm Deacon’s Shop – 2-3 p.m.
Food trucks, a concession stand and beer tent will all be available throughout the day. Food trucks will also stick around for Music on the Lawn which features live music, fire pits and cocktails beginning at 6:30 p.m.
