The Pioneer Playhouse will offer ASL-interpreted shows for the first time in the playhouse’s storied history. These shows will cater to those who are deaf or hard of hearing.

The playhouse staff have had this plan in the works for some time now and are excited to finally be able to offer it, says playhouse Managing Director Heather Henson.

“We are always looking to become more accommodating and inclusive, so we are to finally have these nights where everyone can come,” Henson said.

Pioneer Playhouse has teamed with Central Kentucky Interpreter Referral to bring these specialized productions to their fans. On these nights there will be designated sections for those needing an interpreter.

ASL-Interpreted nights will be open to all and have regular seating for other guests to take in a show.

All three summer productions for the Pioneer Playhouse will offer at least one night of interpreters. This includes the performance of Dracula Bites which is currently showing at the venue.

Wednesday, June 29, will feature the first ASL-Interpreted night for Dracula Bites. Interpreters for this show are Bryan Grubb and Derek Drury.

The next interpreted night for the playhouse will be  Wednesday, July 20, for the showing of Southern Fried Nuptials. Bryan Grubbs will also be interpreting this showcase alongside Kayla Mullins.

August’s performance of Cockeyed will also have a specialized night on the Aug. 3. Bryan Grubbs and Emily Riley will be the interpreters for that show.

Each production is family friendly and appropriate for all ages. Show time for all three events is 8:30 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for children and $20 for adults.
