Mr. Kenneth Helton Hopkins, 101

Mr. Kenneth Helton Hopkins, 101 of Mt. Vernon, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2022 at Rockcastle Regional Hospital. He was born at Freedom in Rockcastle County, KY on May 21, 1921 the son of Lum Hopkins and Nancy Helton Hopkins. He was a musician and retired after 42 years as a district manager for South Central Bell. He loved playing music with the Rockcastle Bluegrass Group; the highlight of his musical career was performing at the 2015 Kentucky Music Hall of Fame induction ceremony. He was a 66 year member of the Brodhead Masonic Lodge #566, a member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Vernon, and was a World War II veteran of the US Navy.
He is survived by a son: Tony (Donna) Hopkins of Mt. Vernon; two grandsons: Kenneth Shaye (Serenity) Hopkins of Mt. Vernon, and Stephen Hopkins of Douglasville, GA; six great grandchildren: Abby, Charlotte, Andrew, Bradley, Kennedy, and Stella; a step-son: Mark (Sandy) Hogue of Danville; and a step-daughter: Sarah Hogue. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his previous wives: Joyce, Rita, and Ann.
Services were conducted Thursday, June 23 at the Dowell & Martin Funeral Home by Bro. Dennis Wilder and Mr. Tony Hopkins. Burial with military honors by the US Navy was in Piney Grove Cemetery.
