Art Center of the Bluegrass announces July exhibits

The Art Center of the Bluegrass is excited to collaborate with two area artist organizations once again – the Plein Air Artists of Central Kentucky (PAACK) and The Gathering Artists – hosting their annual exhibitions in the Art Center’s Grand Hall and Upstairs Gallery July 6 through August 17.

En Plein Air 2022 will feature plein air works created by members of the PAACK that were completed at least 50% outdoors and on site during an official, scheduled PAACK “art out” event during the past two years.  Plein Air is a style of landscape painting and drawing dating back to the early 19th century, and was a central feature of French Impressionism. En Plein Air 2022 is presented by Couzens Dental.

For this year’s exhibition, members of The Gathering Artists group decided to collaborate with each other in small groups interpreting a stanza each from the poem “Kentucky is My Land” by Jesse Stuart.  Members were divided into 10 artist teams of three people, creating 30 fence planks that are assembled into 10 fence sections and presented in the Art Center’s Upstairs Gallery.

“This is one of my favorite times of the year, when our local artists are featured here in our Galleries,” said Niki Kinkade, Executive Director at Art Center of the Bluegrass. “We have such talented artists in this region of Kentucky, and the Art Center is a meeting space for both groups.  We love to offer space for them to display and sell their work each year in this beautiful gallery setting. We hope the community will come out and support these gifted artists.”

An artist reception and official show opening for the public is scheduled for July 8, from 5:30-6:30 p.m., at the Art Center of the Bluegrass. This event is free to attend.

For those interested in joining a local artist group, The Gathering Artists meet at the Art Center of the Bluegrass on the second Saturday of the month, 10:15 a.m. Contact admin@artcenterky.org, call 859-236-4054, or visit artcenterky.org to learn more.
