Police arrest babysitter after child was found alone outside

On Tuesday July 12 at 5:02 p.m., Danville Police responded to the area of Erskine Drive for a welfare check. A 4-year-old child was found, alone, in the rear yard of a home.

The male child was wearing only a soiled diaper when located.  Police took the child into protective custody.  During the investigation police determined that the child had been alone outside for an estimated 45 minutes.

Police did not receive any calls regarding the child missing. After a lengthy neighborhood canvas the child’s babysitter was finally located.

Police identified the individual charged with watching the child as Michelle Henson, 40, of Butler Drive Danville.  Henson had admitted to using marijuana earlier in the day and falling asleep.  Henson was taken into custody and charged with Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree.

The child was later relinquished to a parent.  Social services assisted Danville Police during the investigation.
