The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources, and numerous services for the community. Programs often include storytimes, author visits, crafting, and book clubs. Now that the summer reading program has concluded, youth programs are taking a break in August so that staff can review patron feedback from the summer events and prepare for the upcoming fall programs and activities, which will begin in September. Programs for adults will continue this month. Here is a closer look at the upcoming events at the library:

Boyle County Writers

On Tuesday, August 9 at 5:30 PM, gather with fellow writers to practice your writing skills, share your work, and receive feedback from peers. Facilitated by local author Paul Stansbury, this event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. (Ages 18+)

Crafters Who Care

On Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 PM, join us in knitting and crocheting items for those in need. This knitting and crochet group welcomes current and new members to weekly crafting meetups at the library. Some materials provided. Beginners are welcome. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (Ages 13+)

Adult D&D

Dungeons & Dragons is often called the greatest role-playing game of all time. The library offers a D&D club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, August 14 at noon or 4:30 PM. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)

In addition to programs, BCPL boasts an extensive on-site and online collection for patrons to borrow from. The online collection can be accessed at any time through the library’s website. Patrons only need to have an active library card to set up their online account. Digital library cards, which also provide access to the digital collection, are a great alternative for patrons who don’t already have a traditional library card and who are unable to visit the library in-person to sign up for one. Hoopla is one of the resources the library utilizes for its eMedia collections.

Hoopla is a digital media service where patrons can browse over 700,000 titles in six different formats—audiobooks, eBooks, comics, music, movies, and TV shows. Titles can be streamed immediately, or downloaded to phones or tablets for offline enjoyment later.

Hoopla items are always available, regardless of if someone else has checked an item out. Hoopla’s expanded collection of movies, TV series, and music makes it a wonderful free resource for entertainment. Borrowing on Hoopla is limited to five checkouts per month through BCPL. Hoopla also offers BingePass, a new way to explore great online content. With BingePass, patrons can get unlimited streaming for seven days with a single borrow.

Currently Hoopla Bonus Borrows are back for the month of August. Offered quarterly, Bonus Borrows provide additional titles that can be borrowed without counting toward the monthly borrowing limit. This quarter the bonus collections include: Bingeworthy Series; Thrills & Chills; All Things British; Female Leads; Children’s Clubhouse; Head Over Heels; STEAM for All Ages; and Personal Growth.

Hoopla can be accessed via the library’s website at BoylePubLib.org/emedia.
