This week’s featured pets are Lady and Heath, a couple of canines ready to leave shelter life behind.

Lady is a mixed-breed dog with a coat of three colors: brown, black, and white. She has sparkling eyes and a pretty smile. Lady is more than good looks, though; the one-and-a-half-year-old instantly charms you with her sweet and lively demeanor. At only 43 pounds, she is one of the smaller dogs we have right now, but every pound is full of personality.

According to playgroup volunteers, Lady has a headstart on good manners and loves a game of chase in the yard with her dog pals. Lady will make a fun and loving addition to any family. Fall for her yourself – come meet her today!

Puppy alert! Heath is a chocolate-colored pup with a bit of white and brindle markings and a tail that is set on wag all the time. For a young guy of only a few months old, Heath is pretty chill. He was in the process of being adopted on Monday. Right now, he prefers to be carried around instead of walking on a leash, and he’s so cute you his new family won’t mind holding him close!

The good news is that Heath is smart and still has plenty of time for someone to teach him how to walk nicely on a leash. He will thrive in his new home with lots of playtime, exercise, and positive reinforcement training to help him learn how to be a good boy.

A look back: By the spring of 1981, DBCHS had taken in 3,000 dogs and 800 cats since opening the new facility in 1978. The adoption rate was approximately 30%. Since then, many programs and best practices have been implemented to raise DBCHS’s lifesaving rate considerably. Watch this space for more historical highlights as we commemorate the 50th anniversary of DBCHS.
