Sarah Mae Rutledge York, 96, a long-time resident of Lincoln and Garrard counties, passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022 in St Augustine, Florida. Born June 8, 1926, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Anna Beatrice Anderson Rutledge. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 74 years, Pierce Junior York; brothers, Charles Anderson Rutledge and Cecil Harmon Rutledge; and grandson, Ross William McQuerry, II. Sarah loved spending time with her family and many friends. She enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, sewing, and loved to travel. She hosted every family gathering for many years and no one ever left her house without sweet tea and a meal or slice of homemade pie, cake, or cookie. She did many things over the years from working at Cowden’s Shoe factory and doing the books for her farm and her husband’s plumbing business, to waitressing and cooking at Cutter’s Restaurant, to raising prize rabbits and refinishing furniture. She was an entrepreneur who literally sold rocks from her creek bed on a dare. Always quick to laugh and make any activity fun, she was loved by all who met her and will leave a hole in the fabric of every life she touched. Survivors include daughters, Ann Ursprung of Satsuma, FL and Vivian (Dale) Rector of Vine Grove, KY; grandchildren; great grandchildren; one very special great-great grandson, Bannick James Moore; many nieces and nephews; and long-time best friend, Mary Cloyd. A Memorial Service was held at Craig Funeral Home in Saint Augustine, Florida on August 11, 2022. A Memorial Service will be held at 7 pm, Friday, August 26th at W.L. Pruitt Funeral Home in Moreland, KY with Pastor Angela Gellenbach officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 5-7pm. Burial will be in Buffalo Springs Cemetery.
