NEWS RELEASE

Now is the time to sign up for the Heart of Kentucky United Way’s Day of Caring. This year’s Day of Caring will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 14. The Heart of Kentucky United Way is so excited to bring this volunteer event back for 2022.

Due to Covid-19 the event had to take a hiatus, but we are back for 2022. We need volunteers from business, industry, and public service organizations to work together in the counties of Lincoln, Boyle, Garrard, and Mercer to lend a hand in order to make our communities a better place to live and work.

Local non-profit groups and agencies from Boyle, Garrard, Lincoln, and Mercer Counties have submitted project proposals. Projects and activities consist of activities that can be accomplished in one-half day period. Volunteers can visit www.hkuw.org and click “I Want To Volunteer” to select the place they would like to complete a project. Previous work projects have included: painting, washing windows, light renovation of an agency facility, work place, or client homes, landscaping, clean-up, sorting food/clothing, distributing needed items, simple construction, light repairs, assistance with data entry, filing, bulk mailing, and a particular favorite – interaction with clients, when appropriate. Past experiences have shown, volunteers like to be busy and are willing to work hard; they also want to feel that the help being provided is making a difference in the community and is meaningful.

“Day of Caring is all about giving of your time and energy to make a real difference in the lives of others”, said Stephanie Blevins, Heart of Kentucky United Way Executive Director. “Cleaning an area or painting a wall may seem like an insignificant task; however, to those it helps you are a hero just because you care.”
