NEWS RELEASE

The Danville Independent School District applied for and received funding to put Wi-Fi on school buses, and access is now in place. This gives students access to school Wi-Fi while traveling to and from school and extracurricular activities.

The federal government established an emergency connectivity fund to help with Internet access around the country with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Technology Director Brian Gover said any district-owned Chromebook, iPad or laptop can automatically connect to bus Wi-Fi.

“The same Internet filtering and monitoring system used in all of the schools is used on the buses,” he said about the security.

Currently, students in grades sixth through 12th are the only students who take their devices home, so the Wi-Fi is targeted to them.

The district does not currently allow students to connect their personal devices to school or bus Wi-Fi.
