The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, online resources for the community. Programs include storytimes, crafting, and interactive activities. In addition to the numerous programs, the library is currently hosting the “Telling A People’s Story: African American Children’s Literature” traveling panel exhibit featuring art produced for book illustrations. In conjunction with the exhibit, the library is offering opportunities for patrons preserve their history by utilizing the Memory Lab and other library resources to digitize old photos and record oral histories. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

College-Bound 101

Experts from Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority will be at the library on Saturday, October 1 at 2:00 PM to help you get ready for college by offering financial aid advice and more. Students and parents will be provided with the detailed information they need to apply for student financial aid. Learn about the financial aid process, and discover when and how to apply for state and federal funds. Options for filling the gap if traditional financial aid does not meet their need will be discussed. Common application mistakes, financial aid blunders, and other information will be covered. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 13+)

Camp Out at the Library

Spend your fall break “camping out” at the library reading a great book! On October 1-8, the youth department will be transformed into a forest with everything needed to cozy up with a good book, including tents, pillows, blankets, play campfires, woodland creature reading buddies, and more. Camping-themed activities will be available to do at your own pace during your visit to the library. (All youth ages and families)

Storytime

Each week we will read stories and have a sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Storytime will be held Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AM in the Community Room this fall. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 2-5)

Telling Your Story Workshop:

Favorite Things Sculpting

Inspired by the Telling a People’s Story exhibit, in this seven-week workshop you will use your artistic creativity to tell your story. Art activities will focus on your family tree, storytelling, self-portraits, and more. A different activity will be offered each week. On Tuesday, October 4 at 4:00 PM participants will sculpt their favorite things. There will be opportunities to share your creations with others and hear about how these themes are seen in the books from the exhibit. This activity will be held in the Community Room. (All youth ages)

Crafters Who Care

On Thursdays from 6:00-8:00 PM, join us in knitting and crocheting items for those in need. This knitting and crochet group welcomes current and new members to weekly crafting meetups at the library. Some materials provided. Beginners are welcome. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (Ages 13+)

Starlight Movie Night:

Double Feature

Enjoy a double-feature movie night outside under the stars at the library on Thursday, October 6 beginning at 7:00 PM. The first film is a family-friendly heist comedy, followed by a popular franchise sequel about dinosaurs on the loose. Visit the event listing on the library’s website for film titles and ratings. Popcorn will be free to enjoy while you watch. Bring your own drink, blankets, and set out your lawn chair to watch the movies in the parking lot on our giant theater size screen. Inclement weather will move this event inside. (All ages/Family)

Teen D&D

On Saturday, October 8 from 2:00-4:00 PM teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play.
