The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, and online resources for the community. Programs include storytimes, crafting, author visits, and interactive activities. In addition to the numerous programs, the library is currently hosting the “Telling A People’s Story: African American Children’s Literature” traveling panel exhibit featuring art produced for book illustrations. Information about the exhibit, which will be on display until October 28, can be found on the library’s website at BoylePubLib.org/TAPS. In conjunction with the exhibit, the library is offering opportunities for patrons preserve their history by utilizing the Memory Lab and other library resources to digitize old photos and record oral histories. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Teen D&D

On Saturday, Oct. 22 from 2-4 p.m. teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play. Adult D&D

The library offers a Dungeons & Dragons club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, Oct. 23 at noon or 4:30 p.m. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)

Storytime

Each week we will read stories and have a sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Storytime will be held Monday and Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Room this fall. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 2-5)

Spooky Camp-Out Movie Night

On Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m., join us as the sun sets to hear spooky stories while enjoying a s’mores treat under the stars, then watch a favorite Halloween movie about a trio of diabolical witches brought back to life.

S’mores will be provided by the Boyle County Extension Service and cooked around a campfire in the library’s parking lot, followed by stories and the movie, which will begin around 7 p.m. Bring your own chair and blanket to join our evening of spooky fun. In the case of rain, the event will be moved inside. Any change will be announced on the library’s website and social media pages. Visit the event listing on the library’s website for movie title. Comics to Movies: An Exploration with Frank X. Walker

As part of the Frank X Walker Literary Festival, on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 p.m. acclaimed author Frank X Walker will visit the library to talk about his comic book collection (currently on display at the library) and the upcoming Black Panther movie. Specifically, Walker will discuss how the comic book turned movie(s) has shaped conversations about art, culture, science, fiction, representation, justice, fashion, comics, creativity, and so much more. This event will be held in the Reading Room at the library. (Ages 13+)

Make a Mess: Monster Prints

Let your imagination run wild with hands-on creative projects and experiments. The goal is to try new things with no fear of the mess you might make in the process. The best messes make something new and uniquely yours, and along the way develop literacy and motor skills. On Thursday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m., we’ll be using our hands and feet to stomp out new monsters! Handprints and bubble wrapped feet painting will make the shape and then use googly eyes and more to make your monster come to life. This event will be held in the Community Room. (All youth ages)

Halloween Movie Classics

The library will host a classic Halloween movie on Thursday, Oct. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room. In this 1974 comedy, an American grandson of the infamous scientist, struggling to prove that his grandfather was not as insane as people believe, is drawn to the ancestral castle in Transylvania where he discovers the process that reanimates a dead body. Film title can be found in the event listing on the library’s website. (Ages 18+)

Library Trick-or-Treat

On Saturday, Oct. 29 from 1-4 p.m., families with toddlers, kids, tweens and teens are invited to come dressed in costume to trick-or-treat for candy throughout the library! Start at the Children’s Department to pick up a free library bag, while supplies last. Trick-or-treating will be held inside the library. (All youth/families)
