Any questions about whether Boyle County was ready were answered right away.

Facing another Friday night in which they might have been driven to distraction, the Rebels again showed they were fully focused as they routed Bourbon County 55-12 in Paris.

For the second straight week, Boyle made short work of an overmatched district opponent, scoring three touchdowns in the first 4 1/2 minutes and six in the first quarter.

With a marquee game looming and the playoffs right behind that, the Rebels stayed on task and took care of business.

“We had a couple good weeks of practice, and we really came out strong on both sides of the ball and did what we were supposed to do,” Boyle coach Justin Haddix said. “We asked them to play the game the way it’s supposed to be played.”

Montavin Quisenberry scored four touchdowns and had 298 all-purpose yards — even though he only touched the ball seven times — to lead Boyle (8-1, 2-1 District 4A-5), which secured second place in its district.

Following their regular-season finale against Frederick Douglass, the Rebels will host a first-round playoff game Nov. 4. But they won’t know their opponent until after this week’s games, when the final regular-season KHSAA RPI standings will be used to break a three-way tie between Holmes, Rowan County and Scott.

Quisenberry scored on a 55-yard punt return, an 18-yard reception, a 77-yard run and a 96-yard kickoff return to help the Rebels build a 49-12 halftime lead.

“When he gets the ball (the linemen) block for him well. We want to make it a one-on-one, and there aren’t too many people who are going to tackle him one on one,” Haddix said.

Quisenberry had 129 rushing yards on four attempts, and Sage Dawson ran three times for 50 yards for the Rebels, who had 237 rushing yards and 316 offensive yards in all.

“We busted some big runs, and the guys up front were doing it, also,” Haddix said.

Dawson had touchdown runs of 21 and 23 yards in the first quarter, and he was 3 for 3 passing for 66 yards. His backup at quarterback, Baylor Murphy, was 3 for 3 for 13 yards.

Dalton Stone and Gage Feltner also had rushing touchdowns for the Rebels, and Will Alexander had an interception.

Boyle’s defense held Bourbon (2-7, 1-2) to minus-13 rushing yards, and the Colonels passed for 206 yards.

“They’ve got some really good skill guys. We contained the run game, and they made a few plays in the passing game and scored twice,” Haddix said.
