This week’s featured pets are Sonny and Belle, two dogs who would love to be home before Halloween. No tricks, just treats with these cuties!

Sonny is a handsome, medium-sized mixed-breed boy about three years old. He’s got long, soft fur that’s just begging to be petted and a fluffy tail that never stops wagging. Sonny is a friend to everyone he meets and doesn’t hesitate to give kisses and lean in for a snuggle.

Sonny has lots of energy and loves to play! Not with toys; he wants to play with you, leaping and pouncing to catch your eye. He’ll bow down with his front legs and wiggle his back end joyfully to convince you to join him. Sonny is a delight to be around and will make a fun furry friend for anyone.

Belle is a one-year-old mixed-breed pupper with a white coat and perky ears. She’s on the smaller side at 35 pounds with a slight frame and a big personality! Her energetic side is paired with a calm spirit, and after checking you out, Belle will carefully reach up with her front paws to hug you.

Belle isn’t food motivated, but she will gently take a treat from you. Her motivation is attention, and you’ll want to give it to her as soon as you meet her! She asks for pets with her paw and sweetly encourages you to scratch behind her big ol’ ears. Belle is a laid-back girl who will make her new family very happy.

Belle and Sonny are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated, patiently waiting to go to their new homes. Could you be the one to fill their Halloween with treats? Apply here: https://bit.ly/2Qo4EfE and bring your family and dog to meet them, Monday – Friday, between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Or, email karikuh@dbchs.org for an appointment. Adoptions have been slow recently, and we hope to see these doggos leave the shelter soon.

A (very recent!) look back: After DBCHS launched the Community Cat Program in late 2019, we discontinued trapping, impounding, and euthanizing outdoor cats. The Community Cat Program offers free spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and ear tipping for outdoor cats underwritten by generous grants. Thanks to the program, fewer than 60 cats were euthanized in 2020 and 2021 combined!

You’re almost up to date on historical highlights as we mark the 50th anniversary of DBCHS. Thank you to everyone who joined us at the 9th Annual Pints for Pets to celebrate. We’ve got another opportunity for you to join us as we paw-ty at the Fur Ball on November 18 at Wilderness Trail Distillery. See you soon!
