This week’s featured pets are Ace and Rufus, two long-timers who have been living the shelter life for a while: Ace has been with us since May, and Rufus since April! Let’s get them out of a kennel and into a home before another month passes.

Ace is a handsome mixed breed about three years old. He’s got a brown and white coat with black markings that are reminiscent of a German shepherd. At 45 pounds, he will make the perfect snuggle buddy, keeping you warm this winter.

A shy guy, Ace first approaches strangers with his head down and holds his tail close to his body. Once he’s within reach, Ace will let you scratch behind his ears and pet his head. The more he warms up, the more he wants your attention!

Once he gets going, this loving boy is high energy and will dart around the yard with a grin. Ace wants a home that will allow him the space and time to unwind and show his true self. Are you the one to help dear Ace grow into the confident dog he’s meant to be?

Rufus is a charming four-year-old mixed-breed dog with tan fur and white markings. He has big, brown, expressive eyes, a huge smile, and a sweet nature – he’ll melt your heart when you meet him!

Rufus does his own thing in the yard, calmly checking out the entire area with his nose. He’s a real ladies’ man and enjoys hanging out with the female dogs. After exploring and making friends, Rufus will chill out with the humans to get pets and give kisses.

Rufus is a balanced, friendly guy who will make an excellent addition to any family. Are you ready to break his losing streak and add him to your family?

A (very recent!) look back: In 2021, the DBCHS board and staff focused on the mission, reaffirmed priorities, and set new goals and objectives in response to an ever-changing environment. We engaged stakeholders through interviews and a community-wide survey. The data we collected uncovered several themes and opportunities that will guide us over the next few years as we carry out the humane society’s mission.
