Mary Ann Biles Burke, 98, of Danville passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Born August 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late J.H. Biles and Estelle Ross Biles. Mary Ann was a graduate of Centre College. She was a retired teacher, having taught at Edna L. Toliver for twenty years. Mary Ann was a member of First Christian Church of Danville where she served as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. She was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and a world traveler. She had visited every continent. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel W. Burke, III, sister, Betty Jean Biles Dunn, brother, George Ross Biles; and nephew, Stephen Biles. Survivors include her three sons: Samuel W. (Lisa) Burke, IV of Danville, Joseph Scott (Patty) Burke of Danville, and Lewis H. (Dorene) Burke of Bourbon County; five grandchildren: Anne Marie (Scott) Dorey of Ohio, Michael Freeman of Danville, Joedy Burke (Shawna Lofton) of Danville, Carrie (Chris) Denenny of Alabama, and John H. Burke (Katrina Groth) of Washington, DC; six great grandchildren: Collin Dorey, Meghan (Ben) Schmidt of Ohio, Seph (Sarah) Burke of Danville, Spencer Lofton of Danville, and Cyrus, Cash, and Cooper Denenny, all of Alabama; sister-in-law, Gigi Biles of Danville; niece, Maripat Biles of Danville; nephew, William Shores Biles of Alabama; and a special friend, Harold (Eileen) Carson, who was like a family member. Her granddaughter, Anne Marie said about her Granny, “this lover of word games lived her life like a well written character in a novel that I wished I could be, and yet I’m at a loss for words”. Visitation will be from 10am-12pm, Tuesday at First Christian Church of Danville. A Memorial Service will follow at 12pm with Rev. Colby Smith officiating.
