The Danville-Boyle County Humane Society and Danielle’s Drive-Away Cafe have partnered for a good cause — feeding hungry dogs in search of a meal and a family.

Humane Society Executive Director Kari Kuh said that the shelter is running low on supplies and that this drive has seen fewer donations than in previous drives.

“We are trying to replenish so that we can take can take care of our dogs and dogs in the community,” Kuh said. “Lots of peoples are having a hard time making ends meet. We have seen a higher demand from the pet food pantry and haven’t been getting many donations.”

Kuh said the Humane Society will accept any donations of dog food, but prefers Purina because it is easier for dogs to digest without issues if they have consistently been fed another brand of dog food. The Humane Society will also accept donations of cat food and other pet supplies, such as leashes, blankets and dog toys.

Danielle Dampier, owner of Danielle’s Drive-Away Cafe, is on the Humane Society board and wanted to use her restaurant at 1318 Lebanon Road in Danville as a drop-off location and to help spread the word about the drive.

“The Humane Society is only open part of the day, but we are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. It was just convenient for us to be a drop point,” Dampier said. “We have good customers. They care a lot about the town and animals in it. The platforms that I use to reach my customers might reach someone who the Humane Society didn’t. I’m so appreciative of the incredible work that the Humane Society does.”
