Boyle again leads All-Area football team with seven selections

Boyle County’s streak of three straight seasons at the top of its class is impressive, but the Rebels have been at the top of the All-Area team for twice as long.

For the sixth year in a row, Boyle has more players than any other school on The Advocate-Messenger All-Area Football Team.

There are seven players from the Boyle team that won its third consecutive Class 4A championship earlier this month on the 29-man All-Area roster.

Coaches from the six area schools — Boyle, Casey County, Danville, Garrard County, Lincoln County and Mercer County — voted for the All-Area team, casting votes for a total of 42 players. Ties in voting for the 24 spots on the ballot were not broken.

Mercer, which went 5-6 in its first season under coach Craig Yeast, followed Boyle with six All-Area players. Casey, Danville, Garrard and Lincoln have four players each on the team.

Boyle’s honorees include defensive lineman Tommy Ziesmer, who is on the All-Area team for the third consecutive year, and four players who returned to the All-Area roster for the second year in a row: running back Avery Bodner, offensive lineman Andrew Hardwick, linebacker Dalton Stone and wide receiver Montavin Quisenberry, who made the 2021 All-Area team with a different school (Garrard) and at a different position (defensive back).

Three other players are making their second consecutive appearance: Danville linebacker Xzavion Brown, Casey offensive lineman Benton Hayes and Mercer defensive back Thaddeus Mays (voted at wide receiver last year).

One player was voted to this year’s team at two positions: Mason Sulla of Garrard at offensive lineman and defensive lineman.
