Robert Shakespear Glover Jr.

Robert Shakespear Glover Jr., our loving husband, Pops, Papa, brother, uncle, friend, and neighbor, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 19, 2023. He was 79 years old.
Robert was born in Geary, Oklahoma to Robert Shakespear Sr. and Carrie Beatrice (Arthur). He graduated from Greenfield High School in 1961. He went on to attend Cameron College in Lawton, Oklahoma where he played football and earned an Associate’s Degree in Business. He entered the military and served our country for three years, the majority of that time stationed in Germany.
In 1967, Robert married Betty Ann Williams in Flint, Michigan. They had two sons, Robert, “Bobby” and Marcus, “Timmy.” Robert was active with his sons coaching and supporting them in their many activities including basketball, football, swimming, the arts, and school, as well as instilling in them a strong work ethic and deep Christian values. He and Betty enjoyed traveling, including taking cruises together. Bob was a skills tradesman for General Motors for over 30 years where he enjoyed spending time in the “Bullpen” with his coworkers and life-long friends while he worked third shift telling family stories and discussing life long dreams. He faithfully served as an active, ordained deacon at Christ Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where he enjoyed visiting the sick and shut in, leading bible studies, and teaching Sunday school.
The family later settled in Grand Blanc where Bob ran a chicken farm housing 24,000 chickens he cared for daily for egg production.
He was known as “The Egg Man.” The family enjoyed late night fishing adventures in Tawas and family trips to Oklahoma, the East Coast, and various other destinations.
In 1998, Robert and Betty retired to Danville, Kentucky where they enjoyed raising their granddaughter turned daughter, Shante. He and his “kiddo” spent time at countless dance competitions, going on Wendy’s trips, playing with the dogs, attending school events, and watching Saturday morning cartoons with each other. Robert also enjoyed golfing, attending church, gardening, traveling, tending to his koi pond, keeping a meticulous and well-maintained lawn, drinking sweet tea, and spending time in their sunroom drinking his morning coffee, watching the sun rise overlooking the 16th green. Robert surely loved telling stories and sparking conversation. He never met a stranger and always had a great tale to share. He was an involved deacon at First Baptist Church Perryville where you often found him singing in the choir.
After enjoying their retirement home in the south for over 20 years, Robert and Betty then moved to Byron Center. Papa enjoyed being close to his Michigan family, having family barbecues, and attending his grandchildren’s sporting and school events.
Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Shakespear Glover Sr., his mother, Carrie Beatrice Glover (Arthur), and his sister, Shirley Glover. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Betty Glover, his sons, Robert, “Bobby” Glover of Flint and Marcus, “Timmy” (Shelly) Glover of Byron Center, his daughter,
Shante Glover of Atlanta, his grandchildren, Tyce and Jadyn Glover of Byron Center, his brother, Carl (Debra) Glover of Oklahoma City, his sister, Barbara (Michael; deceased) Braswell of Oklahoma City, his nephews Mike Glover, Greg Glover, Chris Glover, Travis Glover, Cameron Glover, Rahsaan Rucker, his niece, Ardis Glover, and countless family, neighbors and friends. Robert will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved his warm laugh.

Celebration of Life Service will take place Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Resurrection Life Church (Doors E and H) at 5100 Ivanrest Avenue SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Visitation will be 8:30-10:00am followed by a Celebration of Life Service from 10:00-11:00am. The internment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI 48442 at 2:30pm.
