Boyle boys win regional swimming title

The Boyle County boys won the 6th Region swimming and diving championship for the second time in three years, outscoring Woodford County by 10 points to take the title Saturday at Shelbyville.

Clark Coyle won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.65 seconds and joined Boyle teammates Ethan Gover, Beau Bostick and Luke Hamon to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:30.49 for the team’s only event wins.

The Boyle girls were third in their competition, finishing behind West Jessamine and South Oldham in the meet at Clear Creek Park Family Activity Center.

Kate Hoffman won the 100 backstroke in 1:02.18 and finished third in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.95 for the Boyle girls, Hannah Bischoff was second in the 50 freestyle (25.70) and fourth in the 100 freestyle (56.21), Abigail Heath was third in the 50 freestyle (25.88) and third in the 100 freestyle (55.49) and Cameron White (255.10 points) was third in 1-meter diving.

Hoffman, Heath, Bischoff and Maggie Gnann (1:57.66) were third in the 200 medley relay; Hoffman, Heath, Edie Gover and Natalie Spencer (4:03.51) were third in the 400 freestyle relay; and Gnann, Bischoff, Spencer and Anna Wiglesworth (1:52.21) were fourth in the 200 freestyle relay.

For the Boyle boys, Coyle (47.68) was second in the 100 freestyle, Hamon (52.83) was second in the 100 butterfly, Beau Bostick was fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:52.24) and fourth in the 500 freestyle (5:06.35) and J.D. Roberts (254.60 points) and Jackson Thornberry (242.95 points) were fourth and fifth in 1-meter diving.

Ivy Sadler (1:12.49) of Danville finished third in the girls 100 breaststroke, and Cole Hardwick (59.21) of Garrard County was fourth in the boys 100 backstroke.

Danville was ninth in the girls standings and 11th in the boys standings. The Garrard boys were 13th, and the Lincoln County girls were 16th.

The state meet will be Feb. 16-18 in Lexington.
