Library to host interactive movie night for teens

NEWS RELEASE

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, and resources for the community. Programs include book clubs, interactive games, and weekly storytimes. In addition, free tax preparation services will be offered through mid-April. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Teen D&D

On Saturday, February 11 from 2:00-4:00 PM teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play. Go to www.boylepublib.org/teendnd to register. (Ages 13-18)

Adult D&D

The library offers a Dungeons & Dragons club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, February 12 at noon or 4:30 PM. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)

Morning Storytime & Afternoon Storytime

Join us for storytime at the library! Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Morning Storytime will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 AM. Afternoon Storytime will be held on Thursdays at 12:30 PM in the youth department. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 2-5)

Family Movie Night

On Tuesday, February 14 at 5:30 PM, celebrate Valentine’s Day together as we watch a newly released family-friendly movie about the power of a love song. A music-loving kinkajou journeys to fulfill his destiny by delivering a love song for an old friend to his lost love who was a singer. This musical will have you singing along with original songs. This event will be held in the youth department. The film title can be found in the event listing on the library’s website. Rated PG; 95 minutes; 2021. (Youth & Families)

Teen Interactive Movie Night

As you wish! On Tuesday, February 14 at 5:30 PM, teens can watch the swashbuckling cult classic movie about a farm boy-turned pirate who encounters obstacles and enemies in his quest to be reunited with his true love.

Participate in an interactive experience during the movie which includes shouting, playing, sword fighting, and even bubble blowing. This event will be held in the Community Room. The film title can be found in the event listing on the library’s website. Rated PG; 98 minutes; 1987. (Ages 13-18)

Boyle County Writers

On Tuesday, February 14 at 5:30 PM, gather with fellow writers to practice your writing skills, share your work, and receive feedback from peers. Facilitated by local author Paul Stansbury, this monthly event will be held in the Conference Room at the library. (Ages 18+)

Third Thursday Book Club

In February the book club will be reading The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop by Fannie Flagg. Join the book discussion on Thursday, February 16 at 10:30 AM in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)

Friends of the Library Annual Meeting

The Friends of the Library will host their annual meeting on Thursday, February 16 at 4:00 PM in the Community Room at the library. They will share highlights from the Summer Reading program, have a salute to volunteers, and discuss new opportunities. Light refreshments will be available. All are welcome.

Teen Game On

Teens are invited to play Nintendo Switch and board games at the library on Fridays from 3:30-5:30 PM. This event will be held on the 5 th Level of the library. (Ages 13-18)

Chess Mix

On Saturday, February 18 from 2:00-4:00 PM, visit the library and enjoy an afternoon of chess and a savory snack. This program is for all skill levels. This event will be held in the Reading Room. (All ages)

Free Tax Prep

The Boyle County Public Library has once again partnered with the AARP Foundation and the United Way of the Bluegrass to host free tax preparation service. Tax professionals will be set up in the library each week on Tuesdays and Saturdays through mid-April to assist people with the tax filing process. This service is made possible through Tax-Aide and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs. These tax preparation services are available by appointment only.

• AARP Foundation Tax-Aide tax assistance services will be available on Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Although anyone can make an appointment, the program is especially focused on low-to-moderate income taxpayers who are age 50 and older. • United Way of the Bluegrass VITA Tax Preparation Assistance will be available by appointment on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, for people with eligible household incomes. For more information and to schedule an appointment, e-mail 211info@uwbg.org, call 2-1-1, or go online to uwbg.org/VITA.
