West T. Hill Community Theater’s latest show is opening Friday. A comedy, “Dearly Departed” by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones will run for two weekends.

Shows are on Feb. 24 to 26, and March 3 to 5. They start at 7:30 p.m. with a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee.

“Dearly Departed” is about a southern family who had an unexpected death. When family members come together to plan the funeral, they encounter comedic conflicts as they try to navigate their way through the grieving process.

A description of the play on West T. Hill’s website states, “In the Baptist backwoods of the Bible Belt, the outrageous Turpin family proves that living and dying in the south are seldom tidy and sometimes hilarious. Amidst the chaos, the Turpins turn for comfort to their friends and neighbors, an eccentric hilarious community of misfits who somehow manage to pull together to help each other through their hours of need.”

The play also features a motley crew of supporting characters, Director Julie Taylor said. The cast features 18 people.

“Ultimately, the play is a humorous and heartfelt exploration of the complexities of family dynamics and the ways in which we cope with loss,” Taylor said.
