Beginning on Wednesday, March 8, South Buster Pike will be closed to through traffic as the bridge is demolished to make way for a new bridge.

“This is a much-needed project,” said County Judge-Executive Trille Bottom. “The bridge does not meet current standards, and I am anxious to see it replaced.”

Norfolk Southern will be repairing the elevations of the track while the bridge is down. Public Works Director Roger Johnson advised the public that the bridge probably will be closed for up to a year.

“We anticipate Buster Pike being closed up to 12 months,” Johnson said. “Residents of Buster Pike who normally use the bridge will need to modify your route.”

The project is being funded with both public and private dollars. Boyle County Fiscal Court was awarded $1.6 million from the state, and Norfolk Southern Railroad has contributed $200,000 toward the project.
