Whether you’re singing along to top country hits or yo-ho-ho’ing with a group of pirates, Centre College’s Norton Center for the Arts is adding some musical madness to your March.

Armed with more hits than they can fit into one show, country legends Kathy Mattea and Suzy Bogguss are “Together At Last.” Coming to the Newlin Hall stage on March 10, the duo has had fans clamoring for this acoustic pairing for years.

“Mattea and Bogguss are powerhouse singers, songwriters and storytellers,” said Norton Center Executive Director Steve Hoffman. “It’s not often that two superstars of this caliber decide to spend an entire evening on stage with just guitars- telling stories and harmonizing to each other’s songs. That intimacy is reinforced by the exquisite acoustics of the Norton Center’s Newlin Hall.”

Country fans won’t be able to resist singing along to hits like “Outbound Plane,” “Aces” and “Someday Soon” by Suzy, alongside Kathy’s “455 Rocket,” “Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses” and “Where’ve You Been?”

Show up early to the performance and enjoy a pop-up party featuring local musician and Centre student Piper Madison.

“We are always excited when Piper performs before a Norton Center show,” said Engagement Services Manager Molly Baker. “She’s such a talented musician, and our patrons love to hear her.”

End the month by setting sail with a band of swashbuckling buccaneers for a rollicking romp over the coast of Cornwall. Pirates of Penzance, produced by the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, docks at the Norton Center on March 27.

This exuberant musical theater masterpiece follows young pirate Frederic, who was mistakenly apprenticed to a band of pirates until his 21st birthday.

“Pirate of Penzance is one of the most popular of Gilbert & Sullivan’s shows,” said Hoffman. “On Broadway, it starred Kevin Kline, Linda Rondstadt, Rex Smith and Estelle Parsons. When the NY Gilbert & Sullivan Players were here last, they brought H.M.S. Pinafore which was an audience favorite.”

The rich sounds of a live full orchestra, chorus, and vocal soloists resonate with classic power, while the company’s vibrancy, energy and contemporary sense of humor keep the show alive and exciting to a modern audience.
