Mother charged after welfare check

Danville Police responded to a check welfare request at about 1 a.m. on Feb. 24 at on West Jefferson Avenue. Officers received information that two juvenile males ages 8 and 10 were left alone inside the residence.

Upon arrival officers were able to make contact with both juveniles and found that they were unharmed but without adult supervision. Officers continued their investigation and made phone contact with the juvenile’s mother Vera Benthall, 28, of Danville. Officers determined the children had been left alone for an extended period of time.

Benthall arrived on scene and was interviewed by officers. Benthall showed signs of impairment from suspected marijuana use and was taken into custody. She was charged with 2 counts of endangering the welfare of a minor, and public intoxication. Social services assisted Danville Police at the scene and the children were released to family.

Police respond to neighbor dispute

Danville Police responded to Long Run Community Apartments for a neighbor dispute at 2:10 p.m. on Feb. 25. During the investigation officers spoke with all involved parties. Jordan Fogle, 21, of Danville became agitated and upset with his neighbor.

Ring door bell camera shows Fogle approaching the neighboring apartment in an aggressive manner, making threats and armed with a large knife.

The victims stayed inside their apartment and contacted police. Officers were on the second floor landing of the apartment complex speaking with Fogle when they advised him he was under arrest.

Fogle attempted to flee toward the stairs and past three officers. Officers attempted to take control of Fogle as he resisted arrest and continued to try and escape. One officer had to deploy a taser to bring Fogle under control. Fogle was taken into custody without further incident. Fogle was arrested and charged with menacing and resisting arrest.
