Boyle County High School students held their second annual DanceBlue marathon and raised over $13,000 for the Golden Matrix Fund which supports the children of the DanceBlue Kentucky Children’s Hospital Hematology and Oncology Clinic and their families.

“It was completely student-led,” said BCHS English Teacher Eli Edwards. “We beat last year’s number and are really excited about that. We didn’t expect to raise that much especially with it just being our second year.”

Each hour of the marathon features a different theme and it is entirely student-led.

“They chose everything from the fundraisers, the theme for each hour, to the food that we have,” Edwards said. “We have several students in our district who have gone through the DanceBlue clinic, including one of the people who started the marathon last year. We have students at the high school who are DanceBlue kids who are dealing with pediatric cancer. The kids really rallied behind the cause. The event is so much fun they enjoy that.”

The marathon ran for six hours and had themes including Disney, Harry Potter, and a glow hour.

“We had tons of glow sticks and we had a silent disco during that,” Edwards said. “The kids were screaming singing and had no idea because they had headphones on it. It was a lot of fun. The final hour was a celebration of life. We had a father who lost his daughter to pediatric cancer and a girl whose brother just beat cancer. It was a great cause and it is awesome to see students so much effort to raising money for a good cause. We are also really appreciative to all the local businesses who supported the event.”
