Two men were arrested after leading police on a chase through Forkland that ended in a creek on March 18. One man, William Joseph Hayes, was arrested on eight warrants.

Deputies with the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office had positively identified Hayes, who had eight active warrants for his arrest, as the passenger in a vehicle. They attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle on Forkland Road just west of Johnson Branch Road in the Forkland Community.

Once emergency equipment was initiated, the vehicle increased speed and failed to stop. The vehicle continued about three miles, then turned into a creek near the Forkland Community Center.

The vehicle traveled approximately 1/4 mile into the creek, then came to a stop. Both occupants began to flee on foot. After a foot pursuit and brief struggle, the driver and passenger were both placed under arrest.

Daniel Dale Montgomery, 53, of Forkland, was the operator of the vehicle. He was charged with:

1.) Fleeing or Evading, 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)

2.) Fleeing or Evading, 1st Degree (On Foot)

3.) Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree

4.) Resisting Arrest

5.) Speeding 10mph

Hayes, 39, of Forkland, was arrested for the eight warrants. He was also charged with:

1.) Fleeing or Evading, 1st Degree (On Foot)

2.) Resisting Arrest
