The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, and resources for the community. Programs are available for all ages and include interactive games, crafts, weekly storytimes, and an art exhibit in the library’s Mahan Gallery. In addition, free tax preparation services will be offered through mid-April. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Spring Break: Go Wild at the Library!

Go wild at the library during Spring Break reading a great book! From April 3-8, the youth department will transform into a wild zoo full of animal plushies to play with! Animal-themed activities will be available to do at your own pace during your visit to the library. (All youth ages)

Morning Storytime & Afternoon Storytime

Join us for storytime at the library! Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Morning Storytime will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 AM. Afternoon Storytime will be held on Thursdays at 12:30 PM in the youth department. An ASL interpreter will be at Storytime on Tuesdays. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. (Ages 2-5)

“Memories Worth Remembering” Writing Workshop

Beginning on Tuesday, April 4 from 5:30-7:00 PM, local author Paul Stansbury will lead a four-part workshop on recording and authoring a collection of your life experiences later shared in a published work. The remaining three sessions will be held on April 6 and 11 at 5:30 PM and on April 13 at 6:00 PM. This workshop series will be held in the Conference Room. (Ages 18+)

Family Game Night

Join us for Family Game Night at the library on Tuesday, April 4 from 6:00-8:00 PM. This is a social event for all-ages where you, your family, and your peers can come and enjoy a fun night of pizza, competition, and cooperation. The library will provide the food and a full collection of board games. Staff will be available to help you learn the games. This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)

Kid STEAM Lab

On Wednesday, April 5 at 4:00 PM, kids are invited to combine science experiments and art for a fun STEAM project. This week we will be making grape sculptures. This event will be held in the Multipurpose Room on the 5th Level. (Kids)

Tween STEAM Lab

On Thursday, April 6 at 4:00 PM, tweens are invited to combine science experiments and art for a fun STEAM project. This month we will be making a fan favorite – green sparkle slime. This event will be held in the Community Room.  (Tweens)

Teen Game On

Teens are invited to play Nintendo Switch and board games at the library on Fridays from 3:30-5:30 PM. This event will be held on the 5th Level of the library. (Ages 13-18)

Teen D&D

On Saturday, April 8 from 2:00-4:00 PM teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. This event will be held on the 5th Level of the library. (Ages 13-18)

BCPL Seed Library

The BCPL Seed Library is now open to the public. Located on the main level of the library near the entrance to the Reading Garden, patrons may check out up to five seed packets per month. No library card is required to participate. Planting guides are available and can be photocopied if needed. Seed donations are also accepted. Those who have extra seeds that they would like to share with the community can visit the Circulation desk for complete details on how to donate. The BCPL Seed Library is a free service to the community and is offered in partnership with The Garden Club of Danville.

Free Tax Prep

The Boyle County Public Library has partnered with the AARP Foundation and the United Way of the Bluegrass to host free tax preparation service. Tax professionals will be set up in the library each week on Tuesdays and Saturdays through April 18th to assist people with the tax filing process. This service is made possible through Tax-Aide and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) programs. These tax preparation services are available by appointment only.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide tax assistance services will be available on Tuesdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Although anyone can make an appointment, the program is especially focused on low-to-moderate income taxpayers who are age 50 and older. United Way of the Bluegrass VITA Tax Preparation Assistance will be available by appointment on Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, for people with eligible household incomes.
