Boyle County High School senior Ben Reynolds has been awarded a $3,200 scholarship from the National Honor Society after being named a NHS Scholarship semifinalist. Reynolds has been a member of the school’s NHS chapter since his sophomore year and applied for the scholarship at the suggestion of his advisor Eli Edwards.

“I’m so happy that I won and was named a semifinalist,” Reynolds said. “A lot is due in part to the great NHS chapter at my high school and my advisor Mr. Edwards. He has done great things for the chapter. As a school we have set up a ton of great opportunities for kids to get involved in service. It is a benefit for the school and the community.”

After Reynolds joined the BCHS Honor Society, he began the Unbridled Blessings initiative to help fight hunger in local communities.

“I’m very passionate about food insecurity, I think it is one of the world’s biggest problems,” Reynolds said. “I wanted to do something about, I noticed during the pandemic their was increase in food insecurity in our community. My big initiative was to expand the Blessing Boxes which are small community food pantries in the community and brought the first three boxes to Harrodsburg. I think that was a big part of why I was named a semifinalist and awarded the scholarship.”

Although he is still undecided on a college, Reynolds has been offered an opportunity to participate in the Centre College Lincoln Scholars Program and is strongly considering attending Centre. He wants a career focused on helping fight hunger and he intends to double major in economics and Spanish.

“Historically Latin American communities are more food insecure than others,” Reynolds said. “I think that double major will help to benefit them and in turn benefit food insecurity across the world. I’m very blessed to have received this scholarship and all of the opportunities have had. I’m very thankful to be surrounded by a supportive community ands for my great advisor Mr. Edwards.”
