Dr. Clifton L. Taylor, 92

Dr. Clifton L. Taylor, 92, of Alachua, FL and Danville, KY passed away peacefully on March 31, 2023. Clifton, who was the son of the late Edward Howard Taylor and Garnye V. Royalty Taylor, was born April 8, 1930 on Elk Cave Branch in northern Casey County, KY. He attended the one-room Elk Cave primary school, Forkland high school, Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Kentucky where he received the Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture. He later received the Master of Science degree from the University of Kentucky and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin. Clifton also served in the U.S. Army occupation forces in Germany. His professional career was dedicated to educating agricultural and forestry producers through various positions in the cooperative extension systems at the University of Kentucky and the University of Florida. He served as county 4-H and agricultural agents in Monroe and Simpson counties in Kentucky, and then later served as a professor and extension specialist at the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences where he held leadership roles as Associate Dean and Interim Dean for Extension. Clifton and his late wife Barbara along with their sons Scott and Steve were dedicated tree farmers on their beloved Elk Cave Farm. Clifton was recognized as the 2017 Kentucky Tree Farmer of the Year and as one of four nationally recognized Regional Tree Farmers of the Year in 2022. He served as a deacon and elder in Churches of Christ in Kentucky and Florida. Dr. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Ellis Taylor, brothers Luwell Taylor, Dallas Taylor, and Bobbie Taylor, and he is survived by his sons Brian Scott Taylor (Marie) and Steven Ellis Taylor (Martha), grandchildren Joshua Taylor, Amie Marie Imler (Brandon), Travis McAlpine Taylor and Shelby Ellis Taylor, and great grandchild Gwyneth Fox Taylor. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Monday, April 3, 2023 at Walden Funeral Home in Perryville, KY followed by the funeral at 11 am on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, also at Walden Funeral Home. Following the funeral, a graveside service will be held at Bellevue Cemetery in Danville, KY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Taylor Family Forest Scholarship at the University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture, Food & Environment.
