Danville’s newest Mexican restaurant, Las Margaritas, officially opened on Monday. The restaurant, located at 120 S. 4th St., is owned and operated by Danville High School graduates Roberto Gomez and his sister Melissa Gomez. To bring the restaurant to Danville, they partnered with Rene Cortez who got his start in the restaurant business at Guadalajara, Mexico as a dishwasher and currently owns two Las Margaritas locations in Louisville.

“To us, this is our hometown,” Roberto said. “We have been here for 20 years. We pretty much know everybody.”

Roberto never planned to work in the restaurant business and originally had a landscaping company.

“With landscaping you don’t really have job in winter, money is low,” Roberto said. “I had a kid on the way so I had to do something. I just started serving even though I never did it before. I fell in love with it because of the people. I have made so many friends and have so many connections just because I was a server. You get to talk to a lot of people who aren’t even from here and just stopping by from a different state. I really just kept doing because it was fun to me.”

The Danville location of Las Margaritas will be Roberto’s first time running a restaurant and thinks the food will stand out in Danville.

“I’m a nervous wreck, everyday is a new task, it is a lot on my plate,” Roberto said. “When we first announced the restaurant a lot people said that there are too many Mexican restaurants. Me personally, from a business perspective, I’m not going to invest and participate in something I know we already have. My sister and I partnered with him because Cortez’s food is different. We have more authentic traditional plates, that is why I wanted to bring the restaurant to Danville. It is not your everyday Tex-Mex.”

Las Margaritas is located at 120 S. 4th St. in Danville, and the phone is 859-201-2235.
