Published 6:44 pm Thursday, April 13, 2023

CASA of the Bluegrass’ annual Derby Gala is not only a time to socialize and let loose, it is a time to communicate with the community and shed light on protective factors and conditions that can be used to reduce or eliminate risk and promote the social, emotional, and developmental well‐being of children.

It is this Saturday, April 15 at the Danville Country Club, 1486 Lexington Road. Cocktails will be served at 7 pm and dancing at 8 pm. Tickets are $90 per individual and can be purchased online. Business sponsorships are available. This is an adult event.

CASA of the Bluegrass recruits and trains Court-Appointed Special Advocates so every child who has experienced abuse or neglect can be safe, have a permanent home, and the opportunity to thrive. Serving Kentucky counties, Anderson, Boyle, Franklin, and Mercer.

In total, 16,721 reports of child abuse and neglect were made to the Kentucky Department for Children’s Services last year (2022). Child abuse and neglect across the state of Kentucky is a serious problem affecting every segment of our community, and finding solutions requires input and action from everyone. The pandemic may have garnished some of these reports due to the lack of in person school enrolment, childcare and close interaction with individuals outside of a child’s home.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) believe that our children are the most valuable resources and will shape the future of not only Anderson, Boyle, Franklin and Mercer County, but the world.

The success of child abuse prevention programs depend on the collaboration among various groups such as school systems, healthcare establishments, faith-based organizations, first responders, local businesses, etc. As a non-profit organization, the members of CASA strive to promote activities and programs that foster thriving and strong families.

Teamwork successfully increases awareness about child abuse, neglect, and dependency. The goal of the CASA of the Bluegrass 2023 Derby Gala is to promote the emotional and social well-being of children through education and fundraising. This year, CASA honors Honorable Family Court Judge for the 50th Judicial Circuit, Bruce Petrie and his considerate staff. Judge Petrie and his staff work to ensure that children are given the best possible chance to succeed; they truly understand the psychological and physical effects that child abuse can have and its potentially long-lasting impact on the victim.
