Danville Schools bus driver James Murphy is recovering from broken bones after the accident involving a Danville Schools bus on March 27. Murphy is planning to return to work before the end of the month, according to the school district.

This is Murphy’s 30th year as a bus driver for Danville Schools. He had originally retired after 27 years but soon returned to the job as he missed it too much.

The accident occurred when a car ran a red light at the intersection of South 4th Street and Highland Court and struck the front of Danville Bus 211, according to a police report. The driver of the car, Prince Gooch of Danville, had four children in the vehicle and was distract and did not notice the light had changed, the report said.

Neither Gooch nor his children required medial attention. A total of 40 children were on the bus during the accident. One child was attended to by EMS, but was not taken to the hospital.

Police did not suspect drug or alcohol use played a role in the accident.

The Danville Police Department, Boyle  County Sheriff’s Office, Boyle County Fire Department and EMTs responded to the accident. Bus 211 was filling in for the route of Bus 115 at the time of the accident.
