During the Danville City Commission meeting on April 10, the commission officially recognized April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. With this proclamation, CASA of the Bluegrass has placed pinwheels around city hall and throughout town.   

“In 2022 there were 110 reports of child abuse in Boyle County,” said CASA Program Development Coordinator Casey Atwood. “We see them every day; we had family court earlier today. We know that our program and all kinds of other resources in the city are part is what is trying to fix some of the trauma these children have unfortunately experienced. We want to thank anyone who has supported our mission.”

The commission made of proclamation honoring the 200th anniversary of the Kentucky School for the Deaf, the proclamation was accepted by Kentucky Commission on the Deaf and Hard of Hearing board member Barbie Harris and a fifth generation descendant of General Elias Barber, a Kentucky senator who played a large role in the founding of KSD.

The commission made a proclamation honoring National Telecommunications Week.

“I want to thank the mayor, commissions, and all city staff who support us day after day,” Danville 911 Call Center Communications Director Rebecca Hafley.
The commission has made a proclamation officially recognizing Earth Day and Arbor Day. An Earth Day festival will held at the UK Boyle County Extension office on April 22.

The commission also elected to buy back cemetery burial lots from Jody Hutchinson-Teague for $308.
