Brenda Freeman Kuhn, 80 years old, passed away on April 15, 2023. Born on January 21, 1943 to Robinson Carol (“RC”) Freeman and Rosalind Donovan Freeman, Brenda grew up in Harrodsburg and Danville, Kentucky, where she graduated from Danville High School. Known for her quick wit and charming sense of humor, Brenda left an indelible impression on everyone she encountered. She married the love of her life, the late Dr. John (“Jack”) Edward Kuhn, and they shared passions for travel, cooking, snow skiing, boating, horses, and their time with family, friends, and their beloved Jack Russell Terriers. For many years, Brenda owned and operated her own business, Charlane Bath Boutique, with her close friend, Jeannie Livesay. Brenda was also an active member of the Woman’s Club of Louisville, the Colonelettes, and Junior League. Brenda and Jack were devotees of thoroughbred horseracing, owning racehorses and attending premier races around the country, including dozens of Kentucky Derbies. With her expert handicapping skills, Brenda twice won Churchill Downs handicapping contests. But she and Jack found even more joy riding their pleasure horses in each other’s company. Brenda is survived by her four loving children, Kathryn Frances Kuhn of Washington, DC; John Edward Kuhn, Jr. (Sherry) of Louisville; Ellen Smythe Kuhn (Connie) of Louisville; Sarah Anne Kuhn Steinberg (David) of Washington, DC; and her beloved nephew, Mark Terrell Hurst (Natasha) of Louisville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Adam Kuhn, John (“Jake”) Kuhn III, Hollis Steinberg, Alden Steinberg, Dustin Woosley, DeeAnna Woosley and Brandon Stewart, as well as her two grandnephews, Freeman Hurst and Patton Hurst. Brenda was predeceased by her sister, Marsha Freeman Leavell. Visitation is scheduled from 4 PM to 7 PM on Thursday, April 20, at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road, Louisville. At the same location, a funeral service will be held on Friday, April 21, at 10 AM, which is open to all friends and relatives. Later that day, a burial service will be held at approximately 12 p.m. in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, at the gravesite in Springhill Cemetery, which friends are welcome to join.
