Patricia Brooks Bright died April 16, surrounded by her family, at the Boyle County home where she had lived for over 70 years.
Born December 11, 1928 to Patricia Meroney and Robert Brooks, Pat grew up in Cornelia, Georgia. She spent part of her high school years at Sayre School in Lexington, where she made friends with Chris Bright of Danville and met her brother, Bobby. Pat and Bobby fell in love and were married in 1948. They spent their life together on the Bright family farm on Lexington Road.
Pat was active in the Danville community, at The Presbyterian Church of Danville, at her children’s schools, East End Elementary and Boyle County High, and at the Boyle County Public Library. She was part-time assistant on the bookmobile in the 1970s and later served on the library board. In 1990, she and Dottie Montgomery were named Citizens of the Year by the Danville Chamber of Commerce after raising more than $1 million to renovate and enlarge the library.
She was one of the founders of what later became Heritage Hospice.
Pat is survived by four children, Stephen Bright of Lexington, and Katie Bright (Dan Moran), Sallie Bright (Jim Bredar), and Jim Bright (Barb), all of Danville; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Bright, Jr., and a grandson, Benjamin Bright Moran.
A memorial service and reception are scheduled for 11 a.m. April 26 at the Bright-Moran home, 3072 Lexington Road, Danville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to Heritage Hospice, The Presbyterian Church of Danville, or the Southern Center for Human Rights in Atlanta. Online guestbook available at www.stithcares.com
