Library to host virtual reality career exploration and an author talk with Stephen Brown

The Boyle County Public Library offers free activities, special events, and resources for the community. Programs are available for all ages and include interactive games, crafts, and weekly storytimes. Here is a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:

Document Shredding Event

On Friday, April 21 from 2:00-5:00 PM, there will be a document shredding event at the library, courtesy of FNB Investment Services. All are welcome to bring items to shred at the DocuBit shred truck where you can watch your items be shredded. No x-rays or plastics will be accepted. Those with questions may call 859-238-0606 for more information. During this free event, donations for the community garden at Bate-Wood Homes will be accepted. Complete details are available in the event listing on the library’s website. This event will be held in the Library Park. (Ages 18+)

Teen D&D

On Saturday, April 22 from 2:00-4:00 PM teens can play what some call the greatest role-playing game of all time. Players will venture through campaigns that will test their ability to work together and conquer foes in this tabletop adventure. This event will be held on the 5th Level. (Teens)

The ABCs of Dog Training – Informational Workshop

On Saturday, April 22 from 2:30-4:30 PM, the Boyle County Public Library will be hosting a workshop aimed at helping you improve your furry friend’s education, discipline, and enrichment. Offered in partnership with local dog trainer Danielle Livasy, this session will focus on clicker training. There will be information and techniques taught that you can practice at home with your pet. (Please do not bring your dogs to this session.) This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)

Adult D&D

The library offers a Dungeons & Dragons club for adults that meets at the library on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Adults can join a session on Sunday, April 23 at noon or 4:30 PM. No experience is necessary, but registration is required. To register, sign up at the library or email library@boylepublib.org. (Ages 18+)

Morning Storytime & Afternoon Storytime

Join us for storytime at the library! Each week we will read stories and have a themed sensory activity for young children to enjoy. Morning Storytime will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 AM. Afternoon Storytime will be held on Thursdays at 12:30 PM in the youth department. An ASL interpreter will be at Storytime on Tuesdays. Toddlers and preschoolers are all welcome to attend with their caregivers. Note: Storytime will take a break during the month of May. Weekly storytimes will resume this summer beginning on June 6. (Ages 2-5)

Sister Cities Art Showcase

On Tuesday, April 25 from 4:00-5:30, a reception will be held at the library for the Sister Cities Student Art Showcase featuring artwork by local middle and high school students. The purpose of the showcase is to select a Danville, KY piece to enter in the international competition. The exhibit will be on display in the Library Lobby April 24-May 19.

Growing Gardeners

On Tuesday, April 25 at 6:00 PM, join Growing Gardeners and learn about bees! Learn about why bees are so busy doing important work for nature. Get the buzz about bees and make something fun to take home, too. Growing Gardeners is hosted by members of The Garden Club of Danville and Resilient Boyle in partnership with the library. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Kids & Families)

Kid Putt-Putt Golf

On Wednesday, April 26 from 4:00-5:00 PM, kids can come and enjoy our putt-putt golf course through the youth department! (Kids & Families)

Teen TikTok DIY

Teens are invited to try out popular DIY projects seen on TikTok. On Thursday, April 27 at 4:00 PM, we’ll make functional storage and stylish home decor projects with common materials. Bring your favorite saved videos from TikTok and use our supplies stash to try them out for the first time. Our ready to go project this month will be a ribbon wreath. Disclaimer: Teens may need to hot glue, sew, carve, or build to complete projects. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Teens)

Virtual Reality (VR) Career Exploration

On Thursday, April 27 from 6:00-7:30 PM, the library will host a VR career exploration and training session using Oculus virtual reality headsets, provided by the Kentucky Career Center. Job seekers can explore on-the-job scenarios and gain skills through simulated activities. Participants will be able to explore career opportunities; experience simulated work environments; and gain industry-aligned skills. This event will be held in the Community Room. (Older Teens & Adults)

Teen Game On

Teens are invited to play Nintendo Switch and board games at the library on Fridays from 3:30-5:30 PM. This event will be held on the 5th Level of the library. (Teens)

Author Talk & Nature Walk with Stephen Brown

On Saturday, April 29 from 2:30-4:00 PM, Stephen Brown, author of Let the Earth Breathe: Gardening With Native Plants, will talk about his book, gardening, and caring for the earth. The talk will be followed by a guided nature walk around the library grounds. This event will begin in the Community Room. (All ages)

BCPL Seed Library

The BCPL Seed Library is now open to the public. Located on the main level of the library near the entrance to the Reading Garden, patrons may check out up to five seed packets per month. No library card is required to participate. Planting guides are available and can be photocopied if needed. Seed donations are also accepted. Those who have extra seeds that they would like to share with the community can visit the Circulation desk for complete details on how to donate. The BCPL Seed Library is a free service to the community and is offered in partnership with The Garden Club of Danville.
