Boyle County Sheriff Taylor Bottom awarded Deputy Samuel Butler the Lifesaving Accommodation at the April 11 Fiscal Court meeting. Butler helped save the life of an autistic juvenile in January.

On Jan. 5, Butler responded to a missing persons report on Upper Salt River in Boyle County. Butler assisted with an organized search, and found a possible track of a person.

He used his man-tracking skills, and found the missing autistic juvenile, unconscious and in the beginning stages of hypothermia.

“His actions in that event resulted in an autistic juvenile’s life being saved,” Bottom said. “Deputy Butler’s actions brought great credit upon himself as well as the Boyle County Sheriff’s Office.”

Butler said he didn’t expect an award, that he was just doing his job.

“I’ve just considered what I’ve done as doing my job, protecting this community,” Butler said.

Judge-Executive Trille Bottom thanked Butler, saying they are proud of his skills.
