Martha Ann Buchanan May, 94, of Danville died April 23, 2023, in Danville. She was born April 12, 1929, in Danville to the late Ollie and Mary Arnold Buchanan.
Martha was the widow of Ralph C. May.
Martha graduated from Stanford High School in 1947 and practiced as a licensed hairdresser for 59 years. She was a former telephone operator for South Central Bell and Executive Secretary at Corning Glass in Harrodsburg for ten years. She was a life member of Beta Sigma Pi, Eastern Star Past Worthy Matron, a Past Grand officer to Virginia from Kentucky, a member of the Oleika Ladies Auxiliary, a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution St. Asaph’s Chapter, and the Business and Professional Women’s Club. Martha was also an active member of Indian Hills Christian Church.
Martha is predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Dorothy (Everett) Hood, Pauline (Buford) Hood, Christine (Jody) McBee; brothers, James (Iola) Buchanan and Hugh (Roberta) Buchanan; brother-in-law, Bruce Morris; nephews, Micky Hood, Jack Hood, David Morris, Jim McBee, Jimmy Buchanan; niece, Rebecca Morgan; and her loving and doting husband of 62 years Ralph C. May.
Survivors include her sisters, Helen (Maurice) Ham of Danville and Susie Morris of Stanford; nephews, Fred (Mary) Hood of Lexington, Joseph (Wendy) Hood of Harrodsburg, Jeff (Kathy) McBee of Danville, Bruce (Tonya) Ham of Nicholasville, Ronnie (Linda) Buchanan of Liberty, Stuart (Lisa) May of Danville, Randy May of Hazard and Jeff (Eveline) May of Louisville; nieces, Patsy (Wes) Winchell of Perryville, Karen (David) Rankin of Danville, Mary Ann (Joe) Ketron of Madison, AL, and Carrie Ann (Benny) Myers of Danville; grandchildren, Ashtin Haegy, Austin May, Alex May, and Avery May; numerous great nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews; and special friend, Butch Wine.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Friday, April 28, 2023, at Stith Funeral Home, Danville. Service will be at 1 p.m., following the visitation with Rev. Mike Crowe officiating. The interment will be in Bellevue Cemetery.
The pallbearers are Benny Myers, Wes Winchell, Joe Ketron, Bruce Ham, Austin May, Alex May, and Avery May. Honorary Pallbearers are Fred Hood, Joseph Hood, Jeff McBee, Ronnie Buchanan, and Butch Wine.
