Eight teams qualify for state bass fishing tournament

Eight pair of fishermen qualified for the KHSAA State Bass Fishing Championships at regional tournaments Saturday.

Qualifiers included five two-person teams from Boyle County, two from Burgin and one from Casey County.

Brayson Claunch and Cameron Owens of Boyle finished sixth out of 65 boats that made the weigh-in in the coed division of the 3rd Region Tournament on Green River Lake. They caught five fish totaling 13 pounds, 2 ounces.

Coleman Stewart and Keenan Stewart of Boyle also landed in the top 10, finishing ninth with five fish totaling 12 pounds, 8 ounces.

Others state qualifiers in the 3rd Region coed division:

• 11. Landon Pierce and Krobin Neat of Casey County (five fish, 12 pounds, 1 ounce).

• 16. Brent Christopher and Connor Young of Boyle (five fish, 9-8).

• 18. Ashton Feck and Adailyn Courtney of Boyle (five fish, 9-5).

Ashley Young and Allie Addison of Boyle were second in the 2nd Region girls division with one fish weighing 4-8. This is the first year for a girls division in KHSAA regional and state competitions.

Hayden Short and Abigail Short of Burgin earned a top-10 finish in the coed division of the 2nd Region Tournament on Lake Cumberland, finishing sixth out of 89 boats with five fish totaling 11 pounds, 13 ounces.

Brantley McKinney and Casey Becknell-Dodson of Burgin qualified for state with a 29th-place finish. They caught four fish totaling 6-10.

The state tournament will be May 11-12 on Kentucky Lake, with boats launching from Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park at Gilbertsville.
