The new tennis courts at Millennium Park opened just in time for the Boyle County High School regional tennis tournaments. The complex at the park includes six new courts, two of which are lighted.

City engineer Josh Morgan said some finishing touches still are needed and will be completed soon, but otherwise the courts are ready for play.

The new courts were built as a joint effort between the city and county.

“It is a wonderful addition to the Boyle County school system as a partner with Danville’s parks and rec,” said Judge-Executive Trille Bottom. “This will promote a love for tennis to kids. It is awesome that their is such a nice facility to play at.”

Even before the grand opening, the new courts were seeing use.

“They will get a lot of use,” said city commissioner Rick Serres “They have already started to get use now that they are completed. I drive by almost everyday to see the progress and the other day when I drove by people were alreadyout there playing. That is what they are here for.”

The courts will be used regularly by the Boyle County Schools tennis program.

“It is going to be such a huge benefit,” said Boyle County Tennis Coach and Parks and Rec Tennis Director Tao Costello. “We just haven’t had the courts for me to go out and recruit more tennis players. I have 30 in high school and close to 40 in middle school, so I haven’t been out recruiting. We have the summer clinics at Bunny Davis for the young kids. I hope to really get the word out and have hundreds of more kids out here. Now we can handle it with the courts we have.”
