Denny Stewart Cocanougher, 90, passed on to his eternal home on Sunday, May 21, 2023. Born in Danville, Kentucky on July 13, 1932 to the late Elmer D. and Catherine Butler Cocanougher, he was the loving husband of Joanne Huffman Cocanougher for 72 years.
Denny began his career as a carpenter and in road construction followed by 32 years with the State of Kentucky where he advanced to Engineering Supervisor supporting construction and maintenance of facilities across the State. He was a long-time member, Deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Doctors Fork Baptist Church in Perryville. Denny was a very talented woodworker, an avid fisherman, and pool player.
Denny is survived by his wife, Joanne, sons Tommy (Barbara) Cocanougher of Claremore, Oklahoma and David (Monique) Cocanougher of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; daughter-in-law Sherrie Cocanougher of Punta Gorda, FL; grandchildren, Hailee Cocanougher, Quinton (Caroline) Cocanougher, Caitlin (Zachary) Paynter, Robert (Jacqueline) Cocanougher, Heather Cocanougher, Paden Cocanougher, Caleb (Jessica) Cocanougher; and great-grandchildren Colton Cocanougher and Joseph (Evie) Muth-Eastham.
Denny is preceded in death by his parents, sons Richard and Johnny Cocanougher, brother Jimmie Cocanougher, and sister Georgia Gasser.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 2, 2023 at Walden Funeral Home in Perryville.
The Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2023 at Doctors Fork Baptist Church with Pastor John David Lane officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery in Perryville.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to Heritage Hospice, The Gideons International, or The Kentucky Baptist Children’s Home.
