NEWS RELEASE
Danville Police responded to the area of KY 2168 and the bypass at 8:42 a.m. on July3 for a road rage incident. It was reported that the operator of a Toyota Tacoma had brandished a firearm at another motorist, and intentionally tried to hit the other vehicle with his own.
Police located the suspect vehicle and attempted to initiate an investigative traffic stop. The operator refused to yield to the officer’s emergency equipment and traveled north on the Danville bypass towards Harrodsburg.
The fleeing vehicle continued into the city limits of Harrodsburg at speeds of around 50 mph while weaving in and out of the right lane of travel.
The vehicle eventually pulled into the parking lot of FiveStar at 978 S. College St. in Harrodsburg. The operator refused to exit the vehicle and had to be removed by Danville Police.
Once out of the vehicle, the operator was identified as John C. Polowy, 38, of California. Polowy was taken into custody without further incident.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a vacuum sealed bag of marijuana, along with “dab” and drug paraphernalia. Officers also located ammunition in the vehicle, but no firearm, police said.
Police said Polowy may have thrown something out his window just prior to their arrival. A search of his travel route did not uncover any additional evidence.
Polowy was charged with the following: fleeing police, 1st degree (motor vehicle); failure to or improper signal; reckless driving; resisting arrest; disorderly conduct, 2nd degree; trafficking in marijuana, less than 8 ounces; possession of drug paraphernalia; wanton endangerment, 1st degree; no insurance; and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs.
Police apprehend juvenile
At 11:30 p.m. on June 30, Danville Police observed a small crowd in the parking lot of Los Rodeos. It appeared that a confrontation was about to ensue. A patrol vehicle initiated its lights to begin to disperse the crowd. This is when a male subject began to flee on foot toward the area of Goodwill. Officers gave chase and were able to detain the subject. Witnesses advised that the individual had caused a disturbance and brandished a knife at several bystanders in the crowd. The subject had tossed the knife and ran after observing police.
During the course of the investigation, police determined that the individual in custody was a 17 year old juvenile. The juvenile was arrested and charged with fleeing/evading police on foot, wanton endangerment, menacing, terroristic threatening, disorderly conduct, alcohol intoxication in public, possession of alcohol (underage) and resisting arrest.
Due to the subject’s intoxication level, he was taken by police to Ephraim McDowel Regional Medical Center where he was medically evaluated. After discharge, the juvenile was transported to Adair Regional Juvenile Detention Facility.
Police did not find any evidence that suggested that the juvenile was served alcoholic beverages at Los Rodeos restaurant. The name of the juvenile is not being released.
