The National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) announced student Miles Henson from Danville has been selected to become a member of the esteemed organization. The Society recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship, and community commitment. The announcement was made by NSHSS Co-founder and President James W. Lewis.
“On behalf of NSHSS and our co-founder Claes Nobel, a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, I am honored to recognize the hard work, passion, and commitment that Miles has demonstrated to achieve this exceptional level of academic excellence,” said Lewis. “Miles is now a member of a unique community of scholars — a community that represents our very best hope for the future.”
Miles Henson is a 2024 Danville High School graduate who will be attending Centre College for a four year pre-nursing degree with a minor in theatre. At 17 years old, he’s graduating out of his junior year through the Kentucky Early Graduation Program.
Miles has volunteered at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center, Morning Pointe Assisted Living of Danville, and has obtained his SRNA/CNA license from the University of Kentucky with instructor Michelle Lewis.
After graduating from Centre, he plans to attend a school of nursing to get an Accelerated Bachelors of Science in Nursing with a specialty in Emergency Care.
“I look forward to furthering my education and level of care so that I can provide only the highest level of care, accompanied by a smile, to all of my patients in my future home, the ER,” Miles said. “The past years of my life have been filled with obstacles, but I kept on moving forward. I have been involved in over 27 stage productions in various forms from actor to stage manager, or tech crew, and currently director.”
He has also helped with events around Danville, and been involved with programs at DHS.
NSHSS members automatically become lifetime members at the time of their initial membership. Each step along the way — from high school to college to career — NSHSS connects outstanding young scholars with the resources they need to develop their strengths and pursue their passions.
“We are proud to provide lifetime membership to young scholars to support their growth and development,” stated Lewis. “We help students like Miles build on their academic success by connecting them with learning experiences and resources to help prepare them for college and meaningful careers.”
Formed in 2002 by James W. Lewis and Claes Nobel, a member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes, the National Society of High School Scholars recognizes academic excellence at the high school level and helps to advance the goals and aspirations of high-achieving students through unique learning experiences, scholarships, internships, international study, and peer networks. Currently there are more than 1,700,000 members in over 170 countries. For more information about NSHSS, visit www.nshss.org.
