Library hosts Summer Reading events for all ages

Summer Reading “Adventure Begins at Your Library” begins this week at the Boyle County Public Library, providing families and people of all ages fun, affordable activities to enjoy this summer. This year, the library will offer many adventure-themed activities. Exciting performances, outdoor movie nights, live animals, crafts, and storytimes are included in an extensive list of free events for a variety of ages. In addition to the activities, patrons are invited to take part in the Summer Reading challenge. Anyone who reads for 12 days and logs their reading using Beanstack will earn a free prize book plus tickets to put toward a prize drawing for any of the many prize bundles the library is offering this summer. Prize bundles are on display in the library lobby. Information on how to register to participate can be found at BoylePubLib.org/SummerReading. Kids Cardboard Box Build

On Monday, June 3 at 2:30 PM, discover what you can create at the library! What can you build from cardboard boxes? We’ll supply the boxes, markers, and tape; you supply your imagination! This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 6-10)

 

Summer Storytime

Join us at the library for summer storytime. Storytime is where we sing, play, and read! Storytimes in June and July will be held outside in the Library Park on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 AM. Each week at Storytime we will read themed stories and have an activity for toddlers and preschoolers to enjoy. (Ages Birth-5)

 

YA World Tour

If you could travel to any place in the world, where would you go? On Tuesday, June 4 from 2:30-4:00 PM, prepare for your summer adventures as we decorate our own travel journals and canvas travel totes using vintage materials, stamps, old maps, and more! This event will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 11-17; Grades 6-12)

 

Library Game Night

Join us for Library Game Night on Tuesday, June 4 from 6:00-8:00 PM. This is a social event for all-ages where you, your family, and your peers can come and enjoy a fun night of pizza, competition, and cooperation. The library will provide the food and a full collection of board games. Staff will be available to help you learn the games. This event will be held in the Community Room. (All ages)

 

YA Starlight Game Night

Join us for the ultimate summer gaming experience as we play video games outside under the stars! On Wednesday, June 5 from 9:00-10:30 PM, teens and tweens can relax, eat snacks, and compete against friends in popular Nintendo games – such as Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – projected on a giant inflatable screen! We’ll also play a variety of board games, card games, and outdoor games. This event will be held in the Library Park. (Ages 11-17; Grades 6-12)

 

Thursday FunDay: Sound Explorers

As part of the summer Thursday FunDays performance series, on Thursday, June 6 at 10:30 AM the library will bring Sound Explorers to Gravely Hall at Danville High School where you’ll get to meet the instruments in a wind band. Sound explorers will meet 20 different instruments in a fun concert, then get a closer look with an instrument petting zoo at the end. From the flute to percussion instruments, participants will learn what each instrument sounds like and will have an opportunity to hold the instruments! Musicians are from the Madison Community Band and Advocate Brass Band. ASL interpretation will be available at this event. (All ages)

 

Adventure Short Fiction Writing Workshop

Beginning on Thursday, June 6 from 5:30-7:00 PM, the library will host a 4-part writing workshop with a focus on creating stories in the genre of Adventure. Led by local author Paul Stansbury, this is a hands-on instructional workshop designed to help writers develop their skills. This program will be held weekly in the Conference Room. (Ages 18+)

 

Judy Schaefer Art Exhibit Opening Reception

The Boyle County Public Library will host an opening reception for Judy Schaefer’s art exhibit on Thursday, June 6 from 6:30-7:30 PM in the Georgia de Araujo Gallery. The exhibit features still life and landscape art by this local artist. The exhibit will be on display at the library through June 26, 2024.

 

Yoga

On Fridays in June and July, dive into a transformative experience where you’ll learn the art of harmonizing the breath, balance, stability, and flexibility. Through guided breathwork, balance poses, and soothing stretches, discover a deeper connection to your body and mind.  Join us for an invigorating yet calming journey toward inner peace and well-being. This class will be held on Fridays at 11:00 AM in the Community Room. Registration is required. The registration link can be found in the event listing on the library’s website. (Ages 18+)

 

Starlight Movie Night

Watch a movie outside under the stars at the library every Friday evening beginning June 7. First, come early to join our Pre-show Party to play outdoor games. Then, set out your lawn chair in the Library Park to settle in to watch a movie perfect for the whole family. Movie starts at dusk (around 9:00 PM) with an expected runtime of 90-120 minutes. Free popcorn will be available. More information, including film titles, are available in the event listing on the library’s website.

On June 7, watch a family-friendly animated film about an unlikely couple in a city where fire-, water-, land- and air-residents live together. On their journey, the fiery young woman and the go-with-the-flow guy discover how much they actually have in common. Rated PG; 1 hr 41 min; 2023 (All ages)

 

BCPL After Dark: Tattoos

On Saturday, June 8 from 6:00-7:30 PM, dive into the history and development of tattooing and its industry.  Learn how to design your own flash tattoo and create your own stamp with the design. Presented by Sarah Morgan from No Man’s Land Tattoos, this program will be held in the Community Room. (Ages 18+)
