Danville man charged with murder of Maurice Stitt

Danville Police made an arrest on July 8 in regards to the shooting death of Maurice Stitt that occurred on June 9.
They arrested 20-year-old Caleb K. Burns, of Danville, on the charge of murder of 43-year-old Maurice Stitt. Burns is being lodged at the Boyle County Detention Center.
On June 9 at 3:47 a.m., police responded to a shots fired call on the 300 block of North Fifth Street. Upon arrival, officers located Stitt inside a pickup truck that crashed into the yard of a residence. Maurice Stitt was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Police determined Stitt was traveling on North Fifth Street, where he was fired at from the west side of the street. Police believe that Stitt attempted to flee in reverse before he crashed the truck. Stitt was transported to the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center but was later pronounced dead.
A previous shooting occurred that morning at 2:51 a.m., when Danville police responded to a call at a private club at 750 Dillehay Street called The Den. Police determined that gunshots occurred and found the weapon that had been fired. No victim was located at the scene, but minutes later, emergency units responded to a residence on Mason Avenue where Justin Grey was suffering from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to the Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center and has since been released.
Police are looking for any information regarding the shootings. Danville Police have stated that further arrests in relation to the case are expected.
