Perryville’s annual Snappin’ Chaplin Turtle Derby is happening in downtown Perryville on Saturday, July 27.
The festivities start at 11:00 a.m. with a host of activities throughout the day. The turtle derby starts at 7:00 p.m.
The Snappin’ Chaplin Turtle Derby has been an annual fundraising event since 2017. People can ‘adopt’ a turtle for a chance to win $1,000.
When the derby starts, about 2,000 rubber turtles will be released into the Chaplin River. The turtles race to the finish line and the top three turtles will win money. First place gets $1,000; second place gets $600; and third place gets $400.
The event will have food, vendors, a free kids corner, Jeep Show, Perryville Pet Show, Live music, a Ghost Walk and more.
A single turtle is $5 and a pack of six is $25. People can also create teams. Turtles can be adopted at duckrace.com/perryville or in person on the day of the event.
“We love the Turtle Derby, it brings our community out for a unique family event and helps raise money to preserve our historic downtown,” said Main Street Perryville Executive Director Aly Huff. “We are thankful for all our sponsors, without them we would not be able to host such an event.”
Sponsors include the CVB, Farmers National Bank, AutoConnection, Doss & Horky, Central KY Insurance – Erie, Boyle County Fiscal Court, Danville Office Equipment, Battlefield Market, LCW Cabinets, Whitaker Bank, Baker Auctions & Real Estate.
