Perryville held the annual Snappin’ Chaplin Turtle Derby fundraiser on Saturday, July 27. More than 1,800 turtles were purchased and then raced down the Chaplin River, with the first three to cross earning cash prizes.
Funds raised at the event go towards the preservation of historic Perryville.
“We had a great turnout with a lot of people throughout the day,” said Main Street Perryville Executive Director Aly Huff. “We had our first pet show this year with a great turnout. There are a lot of great things going on, we were excited to see everybody here.”
The Turtle Derby first place winner was Vanessa Paul. Second place went to Donna Horn-Taylor; and third place went to Kaitlyn Elliott.
In addition to the turtle race, the all-day event featured numerous vendors and food trucks, live music, a dunk tank, Jeep show, kids’ corner, and the first annual pet show.
Sponsors for this year’s derby included the CVB, Farmers National Bank, Auto Connection, Doss & Horky, Central KY Insurance – Erie, Boyle County Fiscal Court, Danville Office Equipment, Battlefield Market, LCW Cabinets, Whitaker Bank, and Baker Auctions & Real Estate.
