Pet of the Week

Our Pet of the Week is Dinky, who came to the humane society as a skinny and neglected little cutie. She wasn’t just thin. At only 18 pounds she was emaciated. Her delicate and diminutive state earned her the name Dinky, and she had a long way to go before she’d be ready for adoption. A shelter is tough on any animal but vulnerable cats and dogs? Those pets need to be in a home. STAT.

Thankfully, the family that found Dinky was happy to foster her until she regained strength, and in a mere two weeks, Dinky gained 10 pounds! Here’s what her fabulous foster has to say about her visitor.

“This adorable dog has made so much progress since we brought her home! She’s a sweet and cuddly pup who learned to walk with a harness, although she’s not a fan of wearing a collar. Her potty training has come a long way in just two weeks, but she’ll need extra patience and reinforcement when she goes to her new home. Watching her figure out the doggy door was quite comical, but she’s a pro, now! She’s still a bit afraid of getting into the car, but once she’s in, she’s well-behaved.

Dinky is a typical puppy who might get into things if not supervised, but she’s crate-trained and sleeps in it at night or when we’re away, going right in when we tell her. She’d do great with an older, patient dog or one closer to her age who likes to play. A fenced-in backyard is ideal for her, and she’s already mastered the ‘sit’ command. Dinky’s a little foodie and will eat as much as you give her, so we have to be careful not to overfeed her, but she’s such a joy to have around!”

Dinky will be fixed, vaccinated, and microchipped before going home with her new family. Email info@dbchs.org to set up a meet and greet with Little Miss Dinky and apply now: dbchs.org/adopt. We hope to hear from you soon!

The Danville-Boyle County Humane Society is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) established in 1972 that promotes the humane treatment of animals through compassionate care, engagement, and support. DBCHS relies on your generosity to operate and our greatest need right now is wet kitten food. Our kitties prefer Friskies but can’t afford to be too picky; send them what you can!
